Terry Strickland is an influential contemporary figure painter in the Birmingham area. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Central Florida in Graphic design and worked in commercial art for a number of years in the sporstwear field. Terry also worked as an artist for a publishing company that produced board games and gaming supplement books. She has been a courtroom sketch artist and an art teacher, as well.
In 2005 Terry began painting full time. In 2011 she won the Professional Artists Magazine Portrait Cover contest. Her realist work has been featured in The Artist Magazine, Southwest Art, Drawing Magazine, and many other art publications. In 2010 Terry’s paintings, Voice of the Tiger and Fast Lane were shown at the Women Painting Women show at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston. Terry continues to show work individually and with the Women Painting Women.
The company name, Matter Deep, is a pun derived from Terry’s favorite paint color, Red Madder Deep. In August 2012, Matter Deep teamed up with Terry Strickland Art and ran a Kickstarter campaign to fund Terry’s first art book, The Incognito Project.
